New York City Memorial Events - 9/11/2009September 11, 2009 marks the eight-year anniversary of 9/11. There will be several memorial events in the New York City area to honor and remember the victims of September 11th and to come together as a community. I've included those that I thought would be of most interest to our PA family. September 11 Memorial Events in New York CityWTC Site Memorial Ceremony and Remembrance 2009
Each family member will be paired
with a volunteer from the five boroughs who will
represent the spirit of compassion and giving
that unified New York City in the weeks and
months following the tragedy.
As always, four moments of silence will be
observed to commemorate the times when each
plane hit and each tower fell. At sunset, the
famous "Tribute in Light" will return to the
skies above New York City for the night. September 11 Remembrance at Trinity Church
The
historic Trinity Church will open at midnight
for an all-night vigil and labyrinth walk. A Day
of Remembrance service will take place from
12:30-2:00PM.........more September 11 Services at St. Peter's Church

As
part of his community service initiative,
President Barack Obama has declared September 11
as a National Day of Service and Remembrance in
memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks
of September 11, 2001. Above, workers return the
"Last Column" to the World Trade Center site;
the flag-draped steel beam was the last one to
be removed from the site and will a permanent
exhibit at the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

NYCares - A day of Service
& Remembrance

The
official New York City observance of the
anniversary of 9/11 will take place at the World
Trade Center site on the morning of Friday,
September 11th, 2009. In honor of the new
federal designation of September 11th as a
National Day of Service and Remembrance, family
members will read the names of all 2,751 victims
aloud.
Attend
a ceremony of remembrance at the historic
Trinity Church. At 8:46 AM, the church bells
will toll in honor of those who died on
September 11, 2001. 
There
will be at least four public remembrance
services just about every hour, the first
service starting at 8:46am and the last public
service at approximately 1pm. There will be two
special services for the Port Authority one for
employees and a second service for Port Authority
Police. In past years they were at 2pm for
Port Authority employees and 3pm for Port
Authority Police. I have verified the 2pm
mass but not the 3pm mass but I would assume
this has not changed.
