Medicare's Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)

Back

"The Port Authority has advised that retirees do not need to enroll in any of the Medicare Part D prescription drug plans offered by insurance carriers or others, unless you believe that plan would be more beneficial to you.  Port Authority/PATH retirees and their Medicare-eligible spouses/dependents are automatically covered by the Port Authority's Prescription Drug Plan, an employer-sponsored Medicare Part D plan (currently administered by Express Scripts).  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has determined that the Port Authority plan provides coverage that is better than the standard Medicare Part D plan."   Additionally, Part B is mandatory for PA benefits to work properly.

However, if you or your spouse are Medicare eligible (which could be before 65 due to disability) and have another health plan which is an active plan through a spouse, post-retirement employment or the military, you should always check with United Healthcare and or your other health carrier to verify the order of and level of coverage and how the plans will work with Medicare.
