What is the RPEA? - www.rpea.org - Latest RPEA Newsletter

The Retired Public Employees Association, RPEA, is a powerful advocate for current and future public service retirees. Founded in 1969, RPEA today has approximately 50,000 members living in all 50 states and seven foreign countries.

Their membership includes retirees (and pre-retirees) from New York State and local governments, school districts, public authorities, including the Port Authority in New York State, and state employees in the New York State Militia, including their spouses.

A Board of Directors, a President and other officers, (all are volunteers and are elected from the membership), govern RPEA. Our major areas of activities and operations are coordinated and led by an Executive Director and a dedicated and accommodating staff.

Why do Retirees need RPEA?

Many of us who retire from government move on to other jobs, start new careers, relocate, or are able to pursue their hobbies or other interests. Whatever your situation, the retirement income and benefits you earned are absolutely essential to your economic security. You can’t afford to take them for granted!

Make no mistake about it. Retiree benefits are under attack. We’ve all heard the story and seen the headlines –

“Budget in Crisis”
“Pension Costs Skyrocket”
“Retiree Health Insurance Plans Too Expensive”

We have earned our retirement benefits and we cannot allow a negative political climate, either on the State or local level, to reduce or destroy them.

RPEA is a not for profit representing the interests of 50,000 retirees mostly from New York State and local governments. RPEA is the only organization I know of that exists solely to protect, promote and advance the interests of all public service retirees.

They are not an employee organization bargaining on behalf of active employees. Neither do we have affiliations with political parties.  In fact, they do not endorse or support any political candidates or political parties financially or otherwise. They deal strictly with issues that enhance the lives, security, and protection of our retirement benefits.

They are all about retiree issues and only retiree issues. They have been doing this for almost 40 years and they are good at it!

Free yearly hearing screening for you and your family

First, let me tell you I am a member of RPEA and get much of my information about pending legislation that affects NYS public service employee's.  Now that I have told why you should join the RPEA let me tell you about a benefit that actually pays for your membership.

I got an advertisement in the mail from the RPEA about a yearly Free hearing screening for you and your family as a member benefit.  I called and made an appointment and had a professional hearing test performed at a location not very far from my home.  This is a great benefit and just one more reason why every Public Service Retiree should consider joining the RPEA.  They are working for the benefit of 50,000 of us and remember in greater numbers there is strength.......Webmaster

To use this benefit you must either call the plan organization at (800) 286-6149 or email them at info@hearinamerica.com or go to their website: http://www.hearinamerica.com and ask to be registered for this plan.   This hearing plan is free due to your affiliation with the RPEA.

What you get is a free yearly examination at any of the many offices throughout the US and from 30% to 70% discount for the purchase of hearing aids plus free hearing aid batteries for two years.  I recommend this benefit.
