Now Available

As it continues to commemorate its 90-year history, the Port Authority launched a new Web site that allows the public to buy classic photographs from the agency’s rich history.

www.portauthorityarchive.com contains hundreds of photographs dating from the 1920s and 1930s when it built the George Washington Bridge, the Lincoln Tunnel, and the region’s major airports, to more recent shots of the building of the World Trade Center site. The photographs are being made available to the public for the first time in the agency’s history and are available for purchase. New photos will be added to the site regularly.

GWB Bus Station Slated for Overhaul
The Port Authority has taken another step to advance the major overhaul of the 47-year-old George Washington Bridge Bus Station. The overhaul project will create 746 new jobs, provide a state-of-the-art transportation facility, and quadruple retail space with the support of $100 million in private-sector investment.

At its June 30th meeting, the Port Authority Board of Commissioners approved an increase of $3.2 million to overhaul the facility. The project will result in construction of a new bus station with 21 gates, a modern waiting area for passengers and better integrated transfers to the MTA subway system.

The Port Authority is currently working with the developer, George Washington Bridge Development Venture LLC, in a public/private joint venture to redevelop the facility. The developer has agreed to invest $100 million to renovate the bus station and increase the retail space from 30,000 square feet to 120,000 square feet. The Port Authority will invest a total of $83.2 million in the project.

Port Authority Records 30% Increase In Contract Awards to M/WBE Firms
The Port Authority has announced that contracts awarded to minority-owned, women-owned and small businesses represented 22 percent of all contract awards in 2010. The 22 percent participation rate achieved by minority and women-owned small businesses (M/WBEs) was above the annual agency goal of 17 percent.

These contract awards represented an increase of more than 30 percent over the previous year’s awards, while supporting thousands of jobs and nearly $200 million in wages.

Contracts awarded to M/WBEs in 2010 totaled nearly $470 million, second only to the record year in 2008 of $575 million. Total contracts awarded in 2010 are made up of awards from three sources: Port Authority direct contracts and subcontracts; WTC redevelopment projects; and aviation tenant work.
