Joseph J. Birgeles, 86, longtime resident of Kings Park NY, on February 21, 2024 peacefully surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. Born on March 19, 1937 in Queens NY to the late Joseph and Veronica Birgeles. Beloved husband of 55 years to Janet “Sue” Birgeles. Loving father of Suzanne Birgeles and Joseph (Mary Ann) Birgeles. Dear brother of Teresa Birgeles and the late Veronica Ilacqua. Cherished grandfather of Alexandra, Elizabeth, Ava, Benedetto, Stephen and Emily. Dearest uncle to Teresa Gramarossa (Benedetto) and Veronica Podlewski.
Joseph served his country proudly in the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War and served his country as a Captain in the United States Navy-ROTC. He was also a retired Manager of External Affairs for the NY/NJ Port Authority working at the World Trade Center and was also an Adjunct Professor at SUNY Maritime Academy-Fort Schuyler.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 10:00am-11:00am. Leaving the funeral home at 11:00am for comital services and military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.
