Member Benefits

PARA exists today because of dedicated volunteers, helping the greater retiree community access accurate information about their benefits. These benefits are provided by many entities, including but not limited to: the Port Authority, the New York State Retirement System, the Social Security Administration, Medicare, and the Railroad Retirement Administration.

PARA collaborates with the Port Authority’s Human Resources Department to communicate and clarify retiree benefits programs and policies for PARA members. We do this in many practical ways:

• PARA maintains a comprehensive website with a great deal of information of interest to retirees, particularly essential benefits information, links to forms and benefit providers, and makes sure that updates and critical filing dates are noted as needed;
• PARA publishes a semiannual printed newsletter, PARA-phernalia, mailed to members, featuring, for example, “For Your Benefit,” produced by the PA’s Employee Benefits group in collaboration with PARA’s Benefits Committee, Minutes of PARA’s Board meetings, Retiree Luncheon get togethers, and a list of names of those who died (In Memoriam) in the previous six months;
• PARA publishes eBulletins, an email that is sent to members covering time-sensitive issues that cannot wait for the semiannual publication schedule of the printed newsletter;
• PARA orchestrates opportunities for retiree participation with the PA in September 11 Commemoration programs; and
• Underscoring all of PARA’s activities, is its advocacy for the welfare of Port Authority and PATH retirees.

The Port Authority Retirees Association, Inc. (PARA) provides a unified voice for Port Authority and PATH retirees to promote their welfare and to advocate for their benefits. You’ll be joining PARA’s some 4,000 members residing in 39 states and 12 countries. PARA maintains an active affiliation with the Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA) and the Alliance of Public Retiree Organizations (APRO) representing some 500,000 retirees and beneficiaries in the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS).
